On January 26, 2017, the 麻豆区 School gathered for the annual Spelling Bee competition.
As always, the DSW auditorium was filled to the brim with students from 3rd to 8th grade, ready to support their class representatives with posters and cheers. In the running were 23 contestants, each of them very eager and well-prepared. The announcer, Ms. Kehlenbrink, and the jury, composed of Ms. Cropsey, Dr. Jackson, Ms. Meuschke, and Ms. Vorwerk quickly realized that this year鈥檚 competition would be particularly fierce. Even the youngsters impressed by spelling words like 鈥渓egitimately鈥 and 鈥渧engeance鈥 without the slightest hesitation. The jury was particularly amazed by the class champion who spelled 鈥減restidigitation鈥 at such speed that the judges were hard-pressed to keep track of the letters. Albeit, this year鈥檚 bee was indeed very competitive and all the class winners did an excellent job. Finding our champion was an arduous task as the championship word was repeatedly misspelled and, consequently, a new round had to be started - again and again. Finally, after 25 rounds, the winner was able to claim the title with the word 鈥渜uarantine.鈥 And it was high time, as the jury was not only running out of time but also running out of words. The DSW and the English Department congratulate all the contestants for an excellent performance. Sarah M. (7b), this year鈥檚 school champion, will move on to the next level, the Montgomery County Regional Spelling Bee. In second and third place, Robert M. (3b) and Jonathan O. (4a) proved their mettle. At the end of the Bee, the winners received trophies and medals in recognition of their achievements.
Our thanks also go to Ms. Meuschke for organized this wonderful event, to the members of the jury, to the announcer, and last but definitely not least to the Friends of the 麻豆区 School for their generous support.
